Student Involvement in 2010

Students across the State of New Jersey built catapults and trebuchets and joined our competition in 2010. Our hope in involving them was that they learn a little bit about physics, mechanics and mathematics while building their projects. We hope they make friends for life during this team-building project. We hope to build in them a sense of pride in doing the job.

Using their minds or using their hands we hope something about this project sparks an interest that will help direct them into a future career. Our big vision for this event can be paralleled to the true story “October Sky”. (Click here to see the trailer for this true story)

Community Involvement

For those that had never visited our part of New Jersey, which falls within the NJ Highlands, they were pleasantly surprised with our October Vistas Bus Tour. Two tours during the day took them "over the river and through the woods". The trip started up Brass Castle Road to Buckhorn Drive, past one of the entrances to the NJ Audubon Skylands Trails. From there they followed the NJ Audubon Skylands Trail route to Merrill Creek. There was a brief stop at one of the lookouts. From there they made their way down to County Road 519, with tour guide pointing out numerous farms and historical sites. One trip stopped at the Hoff-Vannatta Homestead. This homestead is currently under restoration by the Harmony Township Historical Commission.
