This website was developed by Giulia Iannitelli of Innovative Marketing Designs. Giulia first got involved in tourism when her other company Balloonatics & Aeronuts began a Hot Air Balloon Festival at the Warren County Farmers' Fair.
Over the years she has worked with the Skylands of NJ Tourism Council, NJ Division of Travel & Tourism and is currently serving as the secretary of New Jersey Travel Industry Association. Throughout the years she noticed a need for themed website that were easy to navigate and have content of interest. This is the first in a series of websites to be developed promoting parts of northern New Jersey!
A Story I Love To Tell
by Giulia Iannitelli
They say the grass is always greener on the other side. About 12 years ago I got involved in my hot air ballooning adventure. Let me tell you, our flying area is great. Sometimes we fly over the Delaware River, and sometimes over Merrill Creek. In the spring it is awesome to see the blossoms on the trees and the nice spring green of buds on the trees and crops just pushing up in the fields. And while our most popular time of year is the fall, my personal favorite is September. Some of the trees begin to turn a dark brown or marroon and I just love that contrast between the green and marroon in our the lush mountain ranges. The sky that time of year is a magnificant blue, usually with white puffy clouds against it. It always reminded me of what I imagined the sky out west looks like. After 911 it has always reminded me of how blue the sky was on that day, and so I take a few moments to remember those that made the ultimate sacrifice on that day.
Some time after I got into hot air ballooing I went out to Lake Tahoe with my younger brother. I wanted him to experience a hot air balloon ride so we bought a ticket to fly in Lake Tahoe. I remember my exact thoughts to this day. "If it is nice out in New Jersey it has to be absolutely breath-taking out here!". So that morning we woke up extremely early and waited to our ride that took us out to the launch field, which I thought would be somewhere nearby our hotel. We drove and drove and drove – for probably about 45 minutes. By that time it was daylight and I saw that we were driving out to the middle of nowhere. We began our flight and we flew over the barren, brown, dry, dusty Nevada. And in the far, far distance you could see the snow capped mountains. It was, much to my disappointment, like looking at a 50 cent postcard and wishing you were there.
Since that day I have had such a different view of my own backyard. That was the first time I realized exactly how beautiful an area I have been blessed to grow up in. Growing up I was always bummed we lived in the middle of nowhere. Now, there is no place I would rather be. And after really driving out to the middle of nowhere, I know that this part of New Jersey is somewhere that I have fallen in love with and I know that if you visit, you will too.
